Rock Star Brass

Musical workshops led by a brass band, focused on reimagining popular music through creativity and collaboration in schools and communities.

About the programme

Rock Star Brass is an outreach programme consisting of musical workshops led by a brass band, focused on reimagining popular music through creativity and collaboration in schools and communities. This project has given countless young musicians the opportunity to perform and learn alongside the band through side-by-side rehearsals, instrumental workshops, and exhilarating sing-along shows that break down the boundaries between audience and performer.

  1. 01

    Side-by-side rehearsals

Young musicians take a seat in the band and play the parts for real, shoulder to shoulder with professionals.

  2. 02

    Instrumental workshops

Coaching in small groups — musicality, technique, confidence and the tricks that make popular tunes sing.

  3. 03

    Sing-along shows

It all builds to a live set that breaks down the boundaries between audience and performer. Everyone joins in.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day Rock Star Brass spent down here, and the pupils were buzzing for quite some time afterwards!

Learning an instrument enhances and develops the essential skills needed to produce independent, hardworking individuals who are ready to face the world of work with the qualities that future employers value most. Rock Star Brass takes great pride in inspiring young musicians through its performances, helping them to develop their creative thinking and communication skills alongside the technical and musical aspects of playing their instruments.

The ten-piece ensemble hails from across the UK, with each member having found their own path into a musical career. They are deeply passionate about ensuring that today’s young musicians are given the same opportunities that they themselves enjoyed.

Having worked as animateurs and instrumentalists on education projects for organisations including National Orchestra for All, BBC Proms, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, LSO Discovery, and many others, Rock Star Brass has developed a unique programme of relatable arrangements, ranging from Taylor Swift to Arctic Monkeys. This gives young musicians the opportunity to break the mold of the traditional musical ensemble and become a rock star on their instrument for the day.
